voronoi bugs
about the project:

Voronoi Bugs is a generative, projection-based visual system created entirely in TouchDesigner. Translating photographic imagery of insects into constantly evolving vector patterns, the piece explores the aesthetics of metamorphosis and natural patterning within a digital realm. The bugs shift form—growing from soft, rounded shapes to elongated figures, sprouting wings, and eventually transforming into arachnid-like entities. These evolutionary stages mimic the uncanny logic of nature while highlighting the artist’s personal fascination with the insect world.

The project borrows its name from Voronoi diagrams, a mathematical method of dividing space often found in organic structures. Here, Voronoi forms become the digital skin through which insects are reborn, fragmented, tessellated, and beautifully alien. At its core, Voronoi Bugs is not a narrative, but a system, a living graphic organism that pulses and reacts to sound in real time. Lower frequencies and rhythmic beats drive its animation, allowing the bugs to synchronize with their surroundings and respond to stimuli, as if sensing vibrations in a sonic ecosystem.

Exhibited most often in musical events and immersive environments, Voronoi Bugs bridges a long-standing obsession with the insect world and the precision of algorithmic art. A childhood fascination translated into code, the piece honors the silent beauty of creatures often overlooked, reimagined as ephemeral forms in constant flux.
